Need an Access Point?
Do you need an Access Point to use one in your classes? You can use most Wireless Routers as Access Points. Simply connect one of the switch ports in your Wireless Residential Gateway (Wireless Router) to the network and don't connect anything to the WAN or Internet port.
Most devices on the market today can be used an AP. When you use the device as an AP, the routing functionality will not work and, in most cases, you will not be able to use the DHCP capability of the Wireless Router, but most of the other features, such as MAC filters and wireless encryption, will continue to work properly.
If your ISP provides you with a wireless router, which is seldom as good as one of the other devices available on the market, simply disable the wireless feature, connect your own wireless router to one of the switch ports on the ISP provided unit, as described above, and you have an access point!
